Good, Solid and reliable
A great sharpener, I have two girls in my house (ages 7 and 13) and they have broke nearly a dozen plastic and various electric models. This sharpener is very heavy duty and solidly built. I think it would stand up to a class room full of kids. I plan on buying one for my shop.

Buy this before you waste your money on the cheap ones
I have a bunch of kids that are constantly drawing pictures with pencils and crayons. We've tried every retail pencil/crayon sharpener around and they've all been broken or died. We do have an electronic sharpener that works fairly well, but it's not really appropriate for small children and we've already broken one of those too.The Ranger sharpener is perfect though. It's sturdy, mounts to the wall, and can handle any size pencil or crayon you have (except for the really big big crayons). It's just so solid that you feel like you're back in school.Highly recommended.

Strong sharperner and looks great!
I have six school aged children and I own my own business. I was so annoyed to hear the kids ask on a daily basis if anybody knew where the pencil sharpener was. Sometimes we were successful in finding it and sometimes we were not. We all know what happens when you can't find the pencil sharpener, right? We usually initiate mom's kitchen knife set. Not cool and dangerous I might add, so I decided to spring for a wall mounted pencil sharpener, except every local office supply had poorly made and ugly units. I found the Boston 55 and instantly knew this one was built to withstand the abuse of a family as big as mind. When I pulled it out of the box, I knew this was the one. This sharpener gets a daily dose of multiple size pencils the occasional crayon and the funny kid who thinks he will make arrows for his homemade bow. Now THIS is a pencil sharpener!
Ah, this little gem brings back memories of primary school... no motorized sharpeners, not clumsy, lead-breaking single bladed hand helds... no, this is a true old-school 12 rotary blade sharpener that does the trick EACH and every time. The point is a more gentile slope with a nice point, rather than the abrupt slope of the blade sharpeners, which makes for a nicer lead and longer span between sharpenings.With two kids in primary and a wife that loves her crosswords, we go through pencils and this baby keeps them sharp. Sturdy, nice looking, two mounting options (Mine is upside-down under a counter... out of the way) you can't go wrong.

I was pleased with the quality and build of this product, it's very sturdy. The mounting options leaves me with the inability to score this higher than three stars. There was a clamp mounting option that came with this. I tried in vain to get it to work. The torque generated while sharpening a pencil was greater than the clamps ability to hold onto the edge of a table. This might work if the clamp and sharpener had rubber pads attached, but they don't. So I had to track down a location to mount it with the screws provided. This was a challenge due the screws being so tiny. This limited your location options to anything that is made of solid wood such as a shelf which is where my pencil sharpener is located. Not my ideal location. Oh well it works...This product does an excellent job of sharpening pencils. I'm Happy Now.

Kind of amazing little sharpener
One wonders who designed this thing? It's pretty silly. A twin lens reflex camera that's a pencil sharpener in disguise? Who could have come up with it? It even has a lens that lets you look into the drawer of shavings.The sharpener is not easy to understand-- but it is well designed and puts a sharper point on a pencil then my electric sharpeners. Couple points: The handle has an adjustment -- this controls the shape of the cone of the sharpened pencil. Unique as far as I've seen.To sharpen, you pull the front (top lens so to speak) and it slides away from the body. You then open the aperture, which is a little weird since the aperture on a real camera would be on the bottom lens, not the top, but let's not be picky.(Actually there are f-stop readings where they are supposed to be, but anyhow... Stick the pencil in and leave it there. Then crank. The pencil is held in place and the pencil is quickly sharpened.After doing it a couple times, it's...

Fantastic and Fast Sharpening
This little box sharpens pencils so precisely that I had to turn down the point so that it was a little rounder for my children (they press so hard that the point as set broke immediately. The adjustable pencil hold was able to sharpen some larger diameter pencils that wouldn't fit in our previous machine. You can't over-sharpen and loose valuable pencil length and the drawer is easy to remove and empty of shavings. Needs to be held down with one hand quite firmly while turning the sharpening handle. I am thinking of buying another just for colored pencils.

Better than the expensive sharpeners
I purchased this sharpener after my battery operated model gave up the ghost after only two pencils! I'm swearing off battery operated contraptions. I had a very fancy pencil sharpener that I bought at an art supply house (paid $30 retails for $60) that I was using instead, however, I was never truly satisfied with the points made by it. I figured I would just get a simple hand crank model and make do. Well, the Kikkerland Camera sharpener is not "make-do," it work superbly, even better than its expensive mate sitting on my desk. The "camera" holds your pencils and has a nice skid-resistant pad on the bottom. Easy to use and makes wonderful sharp points that all my students love.

Now This is a pencil sharpener!
I was having a bad week. Everything I did turned to mush. I went to sharpen a pencil and my manual crank plastic pencil sharpener broke off the wall in my hand. It was a piece of junk to start with but still it was distressing. This time I found a far better selection of manual pencil sharpeners. I decided to get the metal pencil sharpener that I remembered from my parochial school days. I picked this one because it was all metal but not too expensive. When it came in the mail, I was instantly pleased. It is shiny and sturdy and does a nice job of sharpening pencils without requiring a battery or power cord. What more do I need? It is a nice trip down memory lane for me. Lots of mischief happened at the pencil sharpener in my school. And it works like a dream!

Finally!
You'd think finding a good pencil sharpener in 2011 would be a breeze. Yet I have gone through probably 10 in the last three years and none of them sharpened well. I tried cheap hand sharpeners, battery powered ones, and electric ones. They would break the lead, not sharpen evenly, or just not sharpen at all. So, I decided to go old school with a wall mounted manual pencil sharpener. This item is heavy duty and installs easily. I did switch out the screws with more durable ones. The ones it comes with are more like decorative screws and I'm sure it would have ripped out of the wall in no time. But, once the screws were switched, it installed perfectly and easily sharpens pencils to a perfect point. I'm thrilled. Who would have thought a pencil sharpener would make me so happy, but I'm just happy to have something that finally works well.

Works great, but something was missing!
This pencil sharpener works great. I was happy with the sharpener itself, but the description says that it was supposed to ship with mounting screws. It DID NOT come with mounting screws (as another commenter previously mentioned). Luckily, I had some hardware in my shop and got it mounted anyway. Not that I would send it back over some 10 cent screws, but it's the principle that matters. Other than the missing mounting screws, the product is great.Also, FYI: The product is made in China. (I did not find the country of origin listed in the description when I bought the sharpener.)

handy pencil shapeners
I bought these pencil sharpers just to add to another shipment so I could get the free shipping, but I'm glad I did. I recently took up a hobby of drawing & thought of buying an electric pencil sharpener. I realize now that would have been a waste of money.
